El Blog de Kalin has been resurrected! In case you didn’t know/notice, it was down from sometime after Christmas until today.

I think I just needed a break from my blog, to figure out what the heck to do with it. I’d begun the process of dreading and avoiding doing any updates, as was pretty apparent. I considered just deleting it all together and leaving it behind.

So the blog with have a few subtle changes, most notably that I’ll no longer be posting as many photos and I won’t be updating about the current goings-on in my life.

So I guess that leaves us with… ferret updates! Wooooo! That’s cool, though, because ferrets are magestic like wolves, as evidenced by this video:

I need to find a way to replay that ending in slow motion.

Huckleberry Finn has become my (fuzzy, spastic) shadow as of late. He is much nicer this semester and has decided that he rather quite likes me. Mostly he likes it when I play with him, which usually involves me tickling his belly and him running away and then coming back to loiter nonchalantly by my feet, acting as though he is just casually strolling by but does NOT want a belly tickle. This process repeats endlessly.

When I walk from room to room I hear the sounds of a little weasel galloping along behind me.

I appreciate this new-found affection a lot more than I appreciated his previous habit of nipping toes.

The problems with my blog are now fixed! You can now see individual entries, make comments, etc.

Many thanks to the nice folks at Start Logic, the hosting company I use, for taking the time to figure out what the heck I was babbling on about. Turns out it was a simple fix, but one that would have taken me ages to figure out on my own.

Also, turns out I probably caused it in the first place. That’s how I roll.

Homecoming Weekend has officially started! Tomorrow morning is an early one, as I’m going to the university farm to help prepare the annual Homecoming Breakfast for current students and alumni.

I leave from there to go to the parade, in which our sorority has a float along with the ag fraternity.

After that is our sorority’s softball game with our alumni against the ag fraternity.

And after THAT is a dinner with sorority alumni.

I realized that in the last entry it looked like Bradley’s old bed was an old towel and his new bed was the navy dog bed underneath. In reality, the navy bed underneath is the old one and there is ANOTHER dog bed (a GREEN one, which I explained to him in hopes of some appreciation, but to no avail) under there. He nearly has it matted down to an acceptable condition.

I just now noticed that when you try to comment on my blog entries or when you try to go to individual pages for entries, all you pull up is a blank page.

I’m not sure about the hows, whys or wherefores. Something about a database maybe? Something involving a blog on the internet, I assume?

I’m working to fix it.

I made this.

With my own bare hands!

Ok, not with my bare hands… But I drove the tractor with the baler all on my own.

Technically, the farm manager/teacher of our Ag Techniques class was sitting next to me, giving me helpful hints like, “The throttle is the little lever!” and coaching me through it step by step. It involved turning on the PTO shaft, which is something that spins rapidly in order to power whatever your tractor is pulling. Also, according to the safety video we watched during the first day of class, it seems that PTO shafts kill 99.8% of people who ever cast their eyes upon them. And they break off the arms of the other 0.2%.

Anyway, I made that little round bale and it was fun. I’m proud of it because it’s not too terribly misshapen. I would say it’s probably my second favorite bale ever, my first favorite being…

Ah, hello, Christian.

You may have noticed that the Kinda Sorta Semi-Daily Photo feature is gone. I figured I’d remove it and just end up updating the main part of the blog more often. So don’t be alarmed to see multiple posts a day.

1) I don’t remember if I mentioned it here, but I recently realized that the contact form on my About Me page wasn’t working. Oops! So if you sent me something, I wasn’t ignoring you, I just didn’t receive it. If you need to get ahold of me, my email is kalin @ elblogdekalin.com. Without the spaces, obviously.

2) Sorry if you’ve been having trouble commenting on the blog. Somehow, a bunch of settings got turned around in my Word Press administration options. I’m not sure when or how that happened. Maybe someone hacked into my account and changed a few of the settings to be… uhh, malicious. I blame Huckleberry Finn.

3) In looking through some older posts, I noticed that comments were randomly turned off on some of them. Again, I’m not sure why. I don’t think it’s really hurting anything, so I’ll probably just leave it.

4) I joined Twitter, so you can see my microblogging over on the side. I know you all are dying to see the random, fleeting thoughts that continually flit through my head, so here’s your chance!

Once again, I’ve overhauled things and redone the layout of my blog.

Things should be pretty self-explanitory. I don’t think too much is different from the last layout, just rearranged a bit. One thing that is notably different is that links to the pages about me, the animals and my photography are now up at the top of the page instead of over in the side bar.

The one new feature is the daily photo. If you click on the thumbnail, you’ll be taken to the Daily Photo section of the blog with the full picture and explanation. So often I have pictures that I never get around to posting because they don’t really fit into an entry or because the story behind them isn’t significant enough to warrant an entry of its own. The idea is to have a different photo each day, and that’s ultimately my goal. So keep an eye out for changing pictures!

Also note that only one picture is shown per day. Which means you need to use the navigation arrow at the bottom of the page to move from day to day.

I also went through the archives and edited posts that had weird characters in them (no, I’m not talking about my sisters). For some reason, a lot of my older posts had an “” after each punctuation, a long with other random things. I think I got them all, but if you happen to see some, let me know!

As you’ve probably noticed by now, there’s a new layout up at Ye Olde Blog De Kalin. It features two cows with whom I am intimately acquainted.

44 is the red one with one horn. She’s also the third to have had a baby this year! I’m rather fond of her, but also a little wary of the horn, as small as it is.

It also features 45 (I think, I don’t actually remember), who occupied herself during the time I was out taking pictures by licking her nose.

She’s not to be confused with 26, who was also captured doing some excessive nose licking.

I also condensed everything down into one side bar. I think actual content of the sidebar is pretty much the same, though towards the bottom you’ll find my blog roll (aka other blogs I like to read). Check ‘em out!
