I constantly refer to my animals in my posts and while you can see their pictures on the side of my blog, you don’t know anything about them. Here’s a very brief run-down of who’s who and what they do.

Bradley is my 13 year old German Shepherd/Lab mix. I got him for my ninth birthday and he means the world to me. He lives in my apartment with me at school and he insists on being chauffeured on at least one daily car ride.

Benvolio is my 4 year old Rat Terrier/Beagle mix. I adopted him from a shelter. He’s overly emotive and constantly thinks that people are about to kill him.

Mauler is my 4 year old Mountain Cur mix. He’s as lovey-dovey as they come, but he’s also the most graceless dog ever. Full football pads are recommended for cuddle time with Mauler.

Masterpiece is my mom’s 14 year old Arabian gelding. He was mine for around ten years, but we had an interesting relationship. He’s a pasture ornament due to health issues and attitude problems that are expounded by his health issues. He and my mom get along better than he and I ever did, so she offered to buy him from me. I gladly took her up on the offer.

Beam was my 32 year old Tennessee Walker gelding who had to be put down in February of 2007. He was my first horse, who I’d gotten when I was 11 from family friends for $1.00. He taught me an incredible amount and I still miss the cantankerous old fart.

Maizy and Huckleberry Finn are my ferrets, each about 3 years old. They live at my apartment with Bradley and I and provide us with constant entertainment. Ok, they provide me with constant entertainment and provide Bradley with constant temptation. Like little pieces of candy on legs.

My name is Kalin and I’m a 21 year old Ag Business major with a minor in Equine Science. I’m working on finishing up my first senior year of college before moving on to Senior Year 2: The Return of the Kalin. After that, it’s off to grad school! I go to school across the Mississippi and 5 hours away from home, so it seems like I’m constantly driving.

I have possibly the best family in the world. I’m the youngest of four girls and my sisters are my best friends. I originally started this blog as a way to update family members about my goings-on. Now I just write about whatever I want and no one, myself included, really has any idea what’s going on in my life. That’s evolution for you.

Along with my family, my pets are very important to me.

You can learn more about them here.

I do web and graphic design, typically for horse farms, for some cash flow. I also do equine photography, mostly at horse shows (both candid and center ring). I love it all, though it stresses me out at times. I can always count on getting at least a few information requests during the week where I have 3 tests, 4 papers and a speech due.

I really enjoy photography as a hobby. You can learn more about my photography here.

In the summers I work for the family friends who sold me Beam. They’re great, like my second set of parents. They breed Tennessee Walkers and usually have just fewer than 20 horses. I clean stalls and do all the feeding and care when they’re out of town during the summers. That’s been a great experience and it keeps me busy.

I love horse shows and my favorite breeds are the saddleseat horses. I try to keep up on current events in the Tennessee Walking Horse, American Saddlebred and Arabian/Half-Arabian worlds.

I’m also a big fan of the working western disciplines (especially cutting). I’m not a huge fan of the stock horse breeds, but it’s hard not to appreciate a nice, athletic horse. I plan to have some cow horses in the future along with cattle (Herefords!).

Sometimes I forget that other people aren’t as obsessed with the equestrian world as I am, so I’ll talk about a padded horse hitting a lick or how I don’t like formals in park classes without thinking about it. Feel free to ask questions!

I hope you enjoy my blog. If you need to contact me, feel free to do so using this handy-dandy contact form:

  • Kalin is twenty-two years old.
Contrary to popular belief, she's not bilingual (though after 4.5 years of Spanish you'd think she'd know more than she does).
